The short answer

We repair and replace air conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces and ductless systems across New Orleans and answer the phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Most calls to Central Heating & AC Repair are for cooling that has quit in summer heat, and the fix usually comes down to a failed capacitor, a clogged condensate drain, low refrigerant or a frozen coil, all of which we diagnose on the first visit.

Why systems fail here

Heat, humidity and old houses: what breaks in New Orleans and why

Two things wear out cooling equipment here faster than almost anywhere else in the country: humidity and salt air. New Orleans averages about 60 inches of rain a year in a climate that stays warm and damp for most of it, so a condensate drain that would take years to clog up north can slime shut in one summer. The moist air off the Gulf also corrodes outdoor coils, contactors and fan motors well ahead of their rated life.

The housing stock adds its own problems. Older homes on piers were built to breathe, not to hold conditioned air, so a system that is sized by square footage alone runs long, dehumidifies poorly and still leaves the back bedrooms warm. Post-1960 slab homes run their ducts through a hot attic, where a leaky joint dumps cold air into the rafters.

We size and repair for those conditions. That means checking the drain and the coil on every service call, measuring airflow instead of guessing at it, and being honest when a 15 year old unit has reached the point where another repair is money badly spent.

Two seasons, one call

Cooling season is long. Heating season still shows up.

Most of the year the job is keeping a house cool and dry. Then a cold front rolls through and the furnace that has not run since March will not light.

April through October

Emergency repairs, refrigerant leaks, frozen coils, drain backups and the replacements that follow a compressor failure. A spring tune-up catches most of it early.

Book a spring tune-up

November through February

Furnaces that will not ignite, heat pumps stuck in cooling, heat strips that trip the breaker. Short season, cold mornings, and a house with no heat at 6 a.m. still counts as an emergency.

What happens after you call us

  1. 1

    You call, a person answers

Any hour, any day. We take the address, the symptom and the system type, and tell you what to switch off in the meantime.

  2. 2

    A technician is dispatched

Calls with no cooling in a heat wave, water damage risk or no heat on a cold night go to the front of the line.

  3. 3

    Diagnosis before any work

We test the system, find the actual fault and explain the repair and the price before touching a part.

  4. 4

The repair, usually the same visit

Capacitors, contactors, drain repairs, fan motors and most refrigerant work are done from the truck.

  5. 5

A straight answer on repair vs replace

If a repair only buys a summer on a tired system, we say so and quote the replacement without pressure.

  6. 6

Cleanup and a check on the whole system

Drain flushed, filter checked, temperatures verified at the vents before we leave.

Maintenance

One visit or a plan: pick the one that fits the house

Systems here run seven or eight months a year. Maintenance is not a luxury upsell in this climate; it is what keeps a 10 year old unit from becoming a July emergency.

Single tune-up

One visit, cooling or heating: refrigerant charge, coil condition, drain flush, capacitor and contactor test, electrical connections, airflow and thermostat check. Best before the first hot week or the first cold one.

Twice-yearly maintenance plan

A spring cooling visit and a fall heating visit on a schedule we track for you, with priority dispatch when something breaks in between. Suits rental properties and anyone who does not want to think about the system.

How we work

What a New Orleans homeowner gets when we take the call

Diagnosed, not guessed

Every no-cool call gets pressures, temperatures and amperage checked before a part is named. A capacitor that failed because of a weak compressor is not a capacitor problem.

Built for humid houses

Drain lines, coil cleanliness and airflow get checked on every visit, because those are what fail in this climate.

Honest on replacement

We will repair a unit that is worth repairing. When it is not, you get a written option to replace it and the reason why.
