Dryer vent cleaning and rerouting for New Orleans homes
Lint builds up in every dryer vent. In a damp climate it packs down faster, and a long or crushed vent turns a chore into a fire hazard.

Dryer vent cleaning removes the lint packed inside the duct from the dryer to the outside cap, clears the cap and damper, and checks the run for crushed foil or vinyl sections. A clear vent dries clothes in one cycle, cuts the dryer's running time and lowers the fire risk. Long or badly routed vents are rerouted with smooth metal duct.
Why dryer vents clog
Updated September 2026
Every load sends lint and moisture through the vent. Some of it sticks to the duct walls, and damp lint packs down hard, especially at bends, low spots and the outside cap. As the opening shrinks, the dryer runs longer and hotter.
Many vents in older homes were run with flexible foil or vinyl, through long attic or crawl space paths, or out through the roof. Those are the ones we find clogged most often, and the ones most worth rerouting.

Why vents clog faster in damp air
Damp air makes lint heavier and stickier, so vents clog faster here than in a dry climate. Older houses often have dryers on interior walls with long runs through the attic or under a raised floor, and some still vent through the roof. Those long, hidden runs are where most of the clogs we clear are found, often packed solid a few feet from the outside cap.
Vent Cleaning
We disconnect the dryer, run a rotary brush and air through the full length of the vent to the outside, and vacuum the lint out at both ends. The outside cap and damper flap are cleaned and checked so they open freely and close against pests. We also clean the lint trap housing inside the dryer, where lint often builds up below the screen. Before reconnecting, we measure airflow at the cap so you can see the difference, and we check the transition hose behind the dryer, which is often crushed against the wall.
Rerouting and Repair
When a vent is too long, has too many bends, runs through the attic in foil or vinyl, or exits through the roof where lint collects under the cap, cleaning only buys time. We reroute it with smooth rigid metal duct along the shortest practical path to a wall cap, seal and support every joint, and fit a proper damper. Where the dryer has to sit far from an outside wall, we can add a vent booster fan rated for dryer use. Disconnected vents dumping into a wall or attic are a common find, and we fix those first.
Multi-Unit and Laundry Rooms
Apartment buildings, condos and rental properties often have stacked laundry with long shared vent routes that nobody cleans until a dryer stops working. We clean these on a schedule, note which units have restricted runs, and reroute the worst ones. Commercial and shared laundry rooms with several machines get the same treatment, with cleaning frequency set by how heavily they are used. Property managers get a record of each unit cleaned, with notes on any vent that is crushed, disconnected or too long to stay clear, so the worst runs can be fixed before a dryer overheats.

What affects the cost of dryer vent work
Vent cleaning is priced on the length and route of the vent.
Vent length
Longer runs take longer to clear.
Exit location
Roof exits need roof access.
Duct material
Foil and vinyl usually need replacing.
Rerouting
New rigid duct and a wall cap.
Booster fan
For very long runs.
Number of units
Multi-unit pricing for buildings.

Questions about Dryer Vent Cleaning in New Orleans
Most homes about once a year; busy households and long vents more often.
A restricted vent is the most common cause.
Yes. Lint is highly flammable and a blocked vent runs hot.
It can, but roof exits clog more; a wall exit is better where possible.
Foil and vinyl crush and trap lint; smooth metal duct is the better choice.
Yes, unit by unit on a schedule.
No. The dryer vent is a separate duct from the HVAC system.
Usually under an hour for a standard vent.
