Rooftop package unit repair and service in New Orleans
Most small commercial buildings here are cooled by rooftop package units. When one fails, the space below warms fast. We repair RTUs, their economizers and their curbs.

Rooftop package unit service in New Orleans covers the common RTU failures: units not cooling from electrical, refrigerant or airflow faults, economizers stuck open and pulling in humid air, belt and blower problems, and leaking or corroded roof curbs. We diagnose on the roof, carry common parts, and answer calls 24/7.
Signs your rooftop unit needs service
- Space temperature rising through the day
- Humidity high even while the unit runs
- Water dripping through ceiling tiles
- Loud squealing or banging from the roof
- Unit short cycling or tripping
- Economizer damper visibly stuck open
- Rust or gaps around the roof curb
What fails on rooftop units
Updated September 2026
A rooftop package unit holds the compressor, both coils, the blower and often a gas heat section in one cabinet exposed to sun, salt air and storms all year. Contactors, capacitors, belts and motors wear, coils foul, and economizer dampers and actuators fail.
The curb that connects the unit to the building matters too. A leaking or rusted curb lets water into the ceiling below, and a unit that has shifted on its curb loses efficiency and seals.

RTU Not Cooling
An RTU that runs without cooling usually has a failed contactor or capacitor, a compressor fault, low refrigerant, dirty coils, or a broken belt on the blower. We check the unit's controls first, then electrical, refrigerant pressures and airflow. Many repairs, such as capacitors, contactors, belts and coil cleaning, are finished on the first visit. For compressors and motors, we quote the repair and the replacement option so you can weigh them for an aging unit. Every visit ends with a note on the rest of the unit's condition.
Economizer Repair
Economizers bring in outside air when it is cool and dry enough to help. In this climate that is rarely true, so an economizer stuck open on a humid day loads the unit with moist air, making the space clammy and forcing the unit to run constantly. We test the damper, actuator, sensors and controller, repair or replace what has failed, and set the changeover correctly for the local climate rather than leaving factory defaults. On some units, locking the economizer out entirely is the better choice, and we explain why when it is.
Curb Adapter Replacement
When a rooftop unit is replaced with a different model, the new unit often does not fit the old curb, and a curb adapter bridges the difference. Adapters and curbs also rust through over time and leak. We inspect the curb and flashing, replace a failed adapter or curb, and seal it so water stays out of the building. Curb work is coordinated with the roof so the roofing warranty is not affected. We also check the unit is level on the curb, since a tilted unit drains poorly.

How long the space is without cooling
Electrical repairs, belts, coil cleaning and economizer fixes are usually completed on the first visit. Compressors, blower motors and control boards for commercial units sometimes need ordering; we give you the lead time when we quote.
Rooftop units around the metro
We service rooftop units across the metro, including the commercial corridors of Metairie and Kenner, where single-story retail and restaurants are mostly cooled by package units on flat roofs. Keeping those units on a regular route means a failed unit gets a technician quickly, and it lets us see the same equipment over time rather than meeting it only when it breaks.
Brands we service and install
We repair and install Trane, Carrier, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, Ruud and the other major lines, plus Mitsubishi Electric ductless.

Leak repair and recharge on older units.
Economizer and controls
Actuators, sensors and controllers.
Timing
After-hours service carries a premium at most shops.
